Definition: Verb: (1) To transfer, encode or lay down data onto an electromagnetic medium e.g. to hard-disk, for later access. (2) To expose film or other light-sensitive material using a progressive or scanning method as e.g. in film-writer. (3) To create a CD, MO or DVD disc using laser light to burn data onto the medium, for later access. (4) To display data on e.g. monitor screen. Adjective: (5) ~ protected: lock or key which prevents data on a disc being written to or existing data being altered. * May be implemented by physical switch or catch; or by software instruction which may be password protected.
