wax thermal

Definition: Printing system based on melting of solid wax colours which are then squirted or transfered onto a receiving layer. * Wax colours are stored in sheets or cakes of colour and melted as required with tiny pins which heat up and apply a dot of colour, usually in three or more separate passes -- one for each separation colour. * Capable of vivid colours, prints on most stock and is close to photo-realistic but limited in resolution. * Printers usually less expensive than other types.
