voxel

Definition: Volume picture element: obtained by stacking multiple planes of pixels to fill a 3D space. With the vertical interval equal to the pixel dimensions, the voxels are cubic which is usually the case but with e.g. computerised tomography it may not be because some scanning processes used produce wedge or rectangular shaped voxels. * Used to create solid representations from a series of 2D scans.
