Definition: Adjective: (1) ~ liquid or other substance: one that is easily converted to vapour or gaseous state. * Photographic cleaners e.g. isopropyl alcohol are volatile liquids. (2) ~ memory: electronic memory that is stable -- i.e. keeps its data -- only with continued application of a steady voltage e.g. computer RAM is volatile memory (disappears when computer is turned off) but CD-ROM is not volatile.
