viewing distance

Definition: The distance between an observer and the object being viewed. * With unaided eyes, it varies from infinity to the closest viewing distance, usually at least 250mm. * 'Correct' viewing distance for a print i.e. to reproduce perspective as seen by the lens equals the focal length multiplied by the magnification factor for the print e.g. for an image taken on a 17mm at 10X enlargement, the correct viewing distance is 170mm. NB: this is much closer than normal viewing.
