unwanted absorption

Definition: Absorption of parts of the spectrum by a dye, pigment or filter which reduce their specificity or efficiency, and have the effect of making the colour less pure or bright than would be preferred. * E.g. a cyan filter or colourant should absorp only the red - orange - yellow third of the spectrum but will also absorp small quantities of blue and green.
