trip

Definition: (1) Verb: to release or start the run of a shutter or other event. (2) Adjective: ~ cord, ~ lead: mechanical or electrical lead used to release shutter or other device or synchronise action of two or more devices e.g. synchronise action of shutter with flash-unit. Did you have a good trip? Trip leads are also so-called for their ability to synchronise the collapse of equipment with the movements of three-legged assistants or other agility-challenged people let loose in a studio. Hence the popularity of wireless synchronisation -- through radio or infra-red -- despite their unreliability.
