transmission

Definition: In optics: the penetration into, then subsequent passage or conduction through, and finally the exit of radiant energy from a medium. * Transmission -- e.g. of light energy through glass -- always involves some loss of energy on entry into and exit from the medium. * May be quoted as a percentage, as a measure of transmission efficiency: the percentage of radiant energy transmitted compared to the incident energy.
