transfer rate
Definition: The speed at which data is moved from one device to another e.g. from hard-disk to removeable storage, from one networked computer to another. Message or massage? Data transfer rates are often quoted in bps -- bits per second i.e. kbps or mbps (kilo- or mega-bits per second). This looks good, or better than the more realistic Bps rate -- bytes per second, by a factor of 8 (as 8 bits make one byte). But, hey, the bps rate looks much better, faster, and bigger is cooler these days -- and who are we to argue with the marketing people?
