transfer function
Definition: Mathematical representation or comparison of levels of an output with the levels of an input, often against another variable e.g. ratio of output to input as a function of frequency as in modulation transfer function. * Tone reproduction curves in photographic and photomechanical reproduction and the Curves control in digital editing are examples. * Lens tests that compare target contrast with image contrast against frequency also plot transfer functions.
