track

Definition: (1) Narrow, concentric portions of storage media such as hard-disks, CD-ROM or DVD which are divided up into smaller sectors for locating data. (2) Strip or row on e.g. film, tape, etc. that contains information e.g. on APS film a track carries data on film type, processing history, etc. (3) Row of cogs or teeth on a straight rack to provide a focusing or positioning control for e.g. large format camera.
