Definition: (1) Noun: in software applications, a function or effect which is applied selectively on screen under direct control of the operator, usually with control of degree of effect, possibly other options. * Typically, the on-screen cursor acts like a virtual tool, applying changes such as adding colour, reducing saturation, drawing lines etc. * The cursor may change its shape to indicate the tool it has been changed into e.g. brush, magnifying glass, knife. (2) Adjective: ~ kit, ~ box, ~ bar: a collection of functions or effects grouped and displayed together in a software application for easy access.
