Definition: Overall subjective quality of tones -- i.e. the overall and local contrast, the highlight and shadow qualities including possibly the image colour -- in a black & white photographic print. * Distribution of tones in an image. * The assessment of tonality may or may not relate the tonality of print with that of scene it represents.
