tolerance

Definition: (1) Allowable or permitted error or inaccuracy. * A high tolerance allows large inaccuracies, a low tolerance does not permit much error. * Applied e.g. to working temperature of chemicals in film processing: black & white processing has a higher tolerance than colour processing. (2) Measure of similarity to a given parameter, usually to define operation of a tool e.g. in selecting more or less similar pixels or changing values of a restricted range of pixel values.
