Definition: Photography of a subject taken at regular intervals in order display the separate steps in a transformation or a sequence of events. * Usually require (a) constant framing of (preferably) static subject (b) constant lighting or automatic exposure control (c) reliable timing of interval (d) camera with automatic film-winding (e) possibly a great deal of film, depending on interval and duration of photography. * Resulting photographs may be shown as a motion picture or used as basis for animation. * If the pictures are shown at a rate faster than they were taken, the movement is speeded up; if the pictures are taken at a faster rate than they are show, the movement is slowed down.
