thermal lensing
Definition: Distortion of an optical component due to action of heat. * The effect is usually insignificant apart from work with lasers: the tiny fluctuations can alter the mode or divergence of a laser beam passing through the affected component. * Do not confuse with effect of temperature on lenses: the major effect is on the lens barrel, changes in dimensions of which affect e.g. infinity focus.
