Definition: (1) Object printed to defined quality standards used to test image acquiring devices e.g. scanner, photocopier, lens. * Printed with bars of different sizes, panels of standard colours etc. * E.g. Macbeth ColorChecker, IT-8 samples. (2) The anode or anti-cathode of a ray tube which emits rays when bombarded by electrons e.g. cathode ray tube, x-ray source. (3) Prepared specimen being imaged during electron microscopy.
