Definition: Apparatus with two matched taking lenses taking slightly differing views. * System of mirrors or prisms in front of a single lens may have same effect. * In either case, two images are recorded simultaneously on adjacent frames: when viewed with a stereoscopic viewer, a three-dimensional image -- i.e. one with relief and distance information -- can be seen.
