Definition: (1) Adjective: ~ lens: camera objective whose focal length is roughly equal to the diagonal of the film format of the camera e.g. nominally 50mm for 35mm format, 80mm for 6x6cm format, 150mm for 5x4" format, etc. * This produces a field of view of approximately 45<, irrespective of size of format. * Also known as normal lens. (2) Noun: lens ~, film ~ standard: that part of a view or studio camera to which either the lens or the film-holder is attached: it also carries the bellows which joins the two standards and rests on the rail or camera bed.
