stabilization
Definition: (1) Any process which reduces rate of change or degradation in a material. (2) Any process which reduces degradations to an image caused by movement in the camera or lens. * May be (a) active process e.g. gyroscopic sensors detect movement in lens and shift elements or change shape of a prism in such a way as to compensate for the movement (b) passive process i.e. image is analysed at the image sensor so compensation for image movement can be accomplished in software control of the process of image acquisition.
