spherical microintegrated lens
Definition: Extremely small field lens used to collect light for CCD elements. * Moulded or etched in an array to cover inter-frame charge-coupled devices: one lens to each pixel. * It improves light-gathering by about one stop, but limits the field angle of the taking lens -- one reason why ultra-wide angle lenses cannot be used with some digital cameras.
