separation
Definition: (1) Noun: Process of converting a coloured image or original into a set of three images, one for each primary colour. * Each image represents the distribution of its corresponding colour in the image e.g. a dark area in the green image indicates there is little green in that area, whereas in the red image, the same area appears light, so there is more red. (2) Adjective: ~ filter, ~ film, ~ negative: red, blue or green filter, film, etc. used in making or resulting from making a separation. * e.g. ~ print: colour print made by making separate exposures on colour material through separation filters, so it is possible to make colour prints with a black & white enlarger.
