screen

Definition: (1) Surface onto which an image is projected for viewing. * The surface may be treated to improve reflective qualities and be curved to correct for projection defects e.g. in IMAX projection. * Viewers may be on the same side as the projector or the screen be placed between projector and viewers: this is rear projection. (2) Plate etched with fine grid of lines used to convert an image into an array of dots of varying sizes in order to make half-tone reproduction printing plates in photo-mechanical production. * Now largely superseded by digital processing e.g. RIP.
