scanning
Definition: (1) Process of analysing or digitising an object by systematically traversing it with a measuring device e.g. as in a scanner. (2) Process of synthesizing an image by systematically building it up with traverses of a beam e.g. as in a television or monitor screen. (3) Use of a device to monitor or check a process and to initiate corrective measures or sound alarm e.g. radar-based early warning systems for bad weather or aircraft.
