Definition: Visual purple: a pigment responsible for visual sensitivity. * It changes chemical form when stimulated by light, which causes changes in the potential of membrane of the retinal cell which leads to the neural response to light. * It is easily returned to its original form, ready to be isomerized again when struck by light. * Its peak sensitivity is about 498nm.
