reflex camera
Definition: Apparatus in which the image for viewing arrives at the focusing screen via a right-angled reflection in a mirror e.g. a single-lens reflex camera. * Also in twin-lens camera: the image from the viewing lens is seen after being reflected in a mirror. * The reflection is needed in order to revert the inverted image projected by the lens; however, the image is still laterally reversed after reflection: in a single-lens reflex camera, a prism or set of prisms correct the image.
