Definition: Elements whose atomic numbers lie between 57 (Lanthanum) and 71 inclusive. * Vital as dopants in semi-conductor fabrication and production of anormalous dispersion lenses (also known as rare-earth glasses). * Some are not that rare. * Also known as lanthanides.
