Definition: (1) Reduction of flash-output by diverting and losing part of the electrical charge from the flash-tube in order to shorten flash duration. * Now obsolete: thyristors reduce flash duration with minimal loss of energy. (2) Reduction of phosphorescence or flourescence by application of radiant energy of different wavelength from the initiating radiation.
