Definition: (1) Generating a coloured image by arbitarily assigning colours to different grey-scale values. (2) Arbitrary assignment of colours to different wave-bands of sensitivity in colour film or sensors e.g. in infra-red photography; in creation of remote sensing images. (3) Changing true-to-life colours of an image by using manipulation software.
