Definition: Noun: (1) Use of equipment and lighting to cause an image of an object or original to be seen on a screen. * Usually the image is larger than the original and the projected image is positioned to be easily viewed or used for another process. (2) Imaginary extension of a line, plane or axis for some distance to demonstrate the geometry of a set-up e.g. to determine whether the Scheimplug condition is met. Adjective: (3) ~ printing, ~ paper: process of making enlarged prints from negatives; hence ~ paper: designed for projection printing. * Compare with contact printing, which does not require an enlarger. (4) ~ booth, ~ lens: equipment designed for projection.
