pre-press

Definition: Stage of production of material for mass production printing prior to making printing plates and setting up the printing press. * At pre-press, checks are made on e.g. colour and tonal reproduction, page imposition (distribution of pages on the press so that they are in the right order when the print-out is folded and cut), all graphics and type elements are present.
