Definition: Glass-covered bed of a flatbed scanner on which is placed the material to be scanned. * The glass protects the scanning mechanism. Pander your platen It never ceases to amaze me how dusty some people allow their monitor screens to get, how scratched a light-box can be and -- you guessed it -- how messy platens are allowed to get. Mucky platens translate into hours wasted in otherwise unnecessary re-touching of the same old scratch on the glass, the same traces of glue carelessly left on the glass appearing on every scan you do. Life is too short for a mucky platen.
