photoresist

Definition: Substance e.g. dichromated gelatin, light-sensitive polymers, etc. which change a property e.g. solubility in water, hardness, when exposed to light. * May be coated onto e.g. metal plate so that after processing which removes unexposed areas, the exposed areas remain to protect metal from etching effects of acid; or e.g. in case of photoresist on silicon wafer, after processing, unexposed areas remain to protect wafer from addition of dopants.
