photomontage

Definition: Noun: (1) Photographic image made from the combination of several other photographic images. * The process of combining the images may be done by multi-exposure of sensitive material; simultaneous multiple projection as in slide-show presentation; by physically sticking the prints etc. together or digitally, in computer with the aid of image manipulation software. * (2) Process or technique of making a photomontage. * Also verb: to create photomontage. Blurring the edges If photomontage works only with images, then digital working -- which often drags in text as well as other graphic foreigners -- ain't photomontage no more, but more like collage. But do we care: collage, photomontage, montage -- they're all about cobbling various bits together in the hope that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
