pellicle mirror

Definition: Thin mirror used to split a beam into two parts, usually into unequal parts so that it is nearly transparent in one direction. * Used in SLR cameras to avoid have a mirror that flipped up and down, and permitted simultaneous viewing and taking. * Usually made of coated thin glass flat but may also be stretched plastic membrane cemented to a supporting frame. * Now abandoned for normal photography due to its tendency to collect dust and great fragility.
