Definition: Programming language used to control output devices based on instructions on how to construct graphic elements such as lines, circles to construct e.g. type. * The translation of these instructions is carried out by the output device or by its controlling software therefore the resolution of the output is determined by the device. * Best known is PostScript, also Apple QuickDraw, PCL (Hewlett Packard Printer Control Language). * Also PDL, and referred to as vector language.
