over-correct

Definition: (1) In optical design: to make more correction for an aberration than strictly necessary, usually in order to make it easier to correct another aberration or, occasionally, to produce specific effect e.g. softening from spherical aberration. (2) In tone reproduction: to exaggerate tonal differences in black & white film by using coloured filters e.g. use of red filter to darken blue skies and accentuate clouds.
