Definition: (1) Measure of a medium's ability to restrict the transmission of light. * It is the ratio of the incident light to the transmitted light; also equal to the reciprocal of the transmittance; also the anti-log of density. (2) Indication of ability of an ink or dyestuff to cover or obscure what lies beneath it. * Also known as covering power.
