Definition: (1) Page description language that uses basic objects and actions such as line, fill, rotate etc. to define graphic objects such as letters and designs. * E.g. PostScript language. * Such languages are resolution-independent i.e. resolution is not defined by the file itself but by the output device. * Contrast with bit-mapped. (2) Programming language that uses basic, self-contained objects such as data structures, windows, sets of functions etc. which interact with each other in order to produce application software. * E.g. C++.
