Definition: (1) Anti-reflection and protection coating on lens consisting of several layers. (2) Film or paper emulsion coating consisting of several layers e.g. with sensitivities to different wavebands. (3) Digital image consisting of more than one layer, with each carrying a different part of the image, or text or an alpha or other channel, etc.
