Definition: Alteration or change in one quality or signal by another factor or signal e.g. contrast in the subject is reduced or distorted by the imaging system: the system modulates the subject contrast. * Strictly: the change to a wave train caused by the superimposition of another wave. * May be used to mean contrast, in optical testing.
