Definition: (1) Combination of different components so that they are thoroughly interspersed among each other e.g. of chemicals or coloured light as in colour enlarger. (2) Superimposition of two or more channels or streams of data in e.g. digital image manipulation, music, video for a desired result. (3) Combination of light beams -- e.g. laser -- of different frequencies so that a single beam is formed whose frequency is either the sum or the difference of the original beams' frequencies.
