magnification

Definition: Measure of how much larger the image of an object is compared to the size of the object. * Various types of magnification according to the dimension being measured e.g. (a) Lateral or linear magnification: ratio of length of a given portion of the image to the length of the corresponding part of the object. (b) Area magnification: ratio of area of image to area of corresponding object. (c) Angular magnification: the ratio of the apparent angular size of the image seen through the optics to that of the object viewed by the unaided eye.
