link

Definition: Feature of file that enables one of its parts or components to communicate directly with another part or component of the same file or those of another file or which connects to another file in another node or network. * Typically, software embeds into one end of a link the address or location of the other end of the link e.g. analogous to a chapter entry in a contents list that gives the page reference, a hypertext link provides a direct route to another piece of text. * Links may be dynamic i.e. changes at one end of the link automatically up-date the entry at the other end.
