lens mount

Definition: Mechanical and electronic interface on a camera which locates and holds the camera lens. * It consists of a face-plate, precisely aligned to the film-plane, which mates with the rear face of the lens so that (i) the attachment is secure (ii) the lens is correctly aligned to be square on to the film-plane and centred on the optical axis (iii) interlinks and communications between lens and camera e.g. to signal maximum aperture, focal length and aperture set, etc. are properly set up.
