kerning

Definition: In desk-top publishing and type-setting: the spacing between pairs of letters. * PostScript and other outline typefaces have kerning pairs built into the library which are designed for normal reading signs: if set to very large size e.g. headlines, kerning may have to be manually adjusted -- usually to decrease space between letters pairs in which the first letter should overhang the next e.g. Wo in 'woman', Ti in 'Time'.
