index of refraction

Definition: Measure of how much a transparent material bends light that falls on it. * Equals: ratio of the velocity of light in a vacuum to the velocity of light in the refractive material, for a given wavelength. * Also given by ratio of sine of angle of incidence to sine of angle of refraction (based on Snell's Law).
