Definition: Comparison of a template of an image with an actual image for machine vision. * The template image (correlation kernel) is superimposed on the actual camera image of an object to generate the correlation image to display match or disparity. * Used for character recognition (e.g. machine reading of car licence plates), flaw detection, etc.
