image aspect ratio
Definition: Comparison of the depth of the image to its width e.g. the nominal 35mm format in landscape orientation is 24mm deep by 36mm so the aspect ratio works out to be 1:1.5. * Used to indicate shape of box bounding the image assuming the sides are at right-angles e.g. high aspect ratio is long and thin; an aspect ratio of about 1 is squarish; while images with aspect ratios less than 1 are tall and narrow. * Useful in calculating file sizes on change of reproduction scale, assuming the aspect ratio is locked or fixed.
