Definition: (1) Visible product of a system capturing and recording a representation of a subject based on the energy radiation emitted by or reflected from it. * Image may be directly produced e.g. that seen in camera obscura or telescope; or indirectly produced e.g. monitor display of multi-spectral satellite image, shock-waves from Schlieren photography. (2) Reproduction or representation of an object produced by light rays.
